Apprentice is also a support program aimed at encouraging discussion and improving communication with your parents - who might find it difficult to talk to you about the dangers present on the roads.

Becoming a new driver can be a bumpy ride. The need for reassurance, lack of driving experience, higher costs for insurance, costs for gas and the car itself, etc., etc.

The goal of the Apprentice program is to fulfill a contract between you and your parents in which you both agree that a car must be driven safely and responsibly.

It can be annoying when you have so few occasions to prove that you are reliable and responsible. As well as feeling that you are not being given due credit for your driving skills, it can also be difficult to discuss this with your parents.

Presented in the form of an online contract, Guardian provides easy-to-follow steps to be part of the program. Signing up for the program also has the advantage of leading to mutual trust and respect between parent and young driver.

The program features the following steps:

• Together, the parent and the young driver complete an online contract.
• A confirmation email is then sent to the parent as well as the young driver.
• One month later, the first follow-up emails are sent to the parent and young driver.
• Thereafter, 4 quarterly follow-up emails are sent to the parent and young driver.
